Clinical supervision is a structured professional relationship between a supervisor and a supervisee in a clinical or therapeutic setting. It is a process designed to support the development, growth, and effectiveness of the supervisee, who is typically a mental health professional or a trainee in a mental health-related field. The primary focus of clinical supervision is to enhance the clinical skills and professional growth of the student or intern.
The primary purpose of clinical supervision is to enhance the supervisee's clinical skills, knowledge, and professional competence. It provides a framework for reflective practice, where the supervisee can critically analyze their work, explore challenges and dilemmas, and gain insights into their therapeutic interventions while gaining the necessary hours to become independently licensed.
